I thought I'd done it. I thought I'd discovered the least necessary cover in the history of recorded music. "How could you ever top," I wondered, "Midnight Special covering Boys of Summer at The Utter Place in Minot, North Dakota. How can you fucking beat that?"
"Kyle" even forgot half the of third verse. The Ataris will not be sweating their balls over that performance.
But then I found this. The horror.

Three comments on the Sandler cover:
1. I have Weld by Neil Young and Crazy Horse. This version is about 11 minutes short.
2. Nothing daring about this. Completely unnecessary. Like Sandler's career. Hey-yo!
3. Watch the video and listen to the music. I don't think Sandler's guitar is even plugged in. I could not hear any changes at all in the music when Sandler changed chords.
4. Da-da-da, da-da-da-dum.
Three comments on Midnight Special:
1. Ragged, yes. Riskier than Sandler's attempt? Definitely. At least these guys attempted to make the song their version of it rather than a bland re-recording.
2. I have never been to this place.
3. Since it is North Dakota, shouldn't the song have a title like Boys of Summer (June 24-July 16).
